LIS - Health Information Locator is a catalog of relevant health sites, selected according to quality criteria. The content is constituted by metadata that describes information sources available in the internet, pointing to the hypertext links. LIS applies a methodology based on the Dublin Core and GILS formats (Global Information Locator Service).

DeCS - Health Sciences Descriptors is the trilingual vocabulary (English, Portuguese and Spanish) that represents the standard terminology used for both indexing and navigating the VHL information sources. The compatibility with the MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) terminology from NLM (National Library of Medicine) and the commitment with constant updating and translation to Portuguese and Spanish allowed the effective cooperation with the UMLS (Unified Medical Language System, NLM) project in the last years. The DeCS also contains the terminology of areas such as Public Health, Homeopathy, Science and Health, and Health Surveillance.

The area of Health Scientific Communication was included on the VHL in order to contribute to the development of indicators to follow-up the flow of scientific communication in Latin America and the Caribbean. It contains information sources oriented to scientific editors and health S&T managers.
