Mission of BIREME

To contribute to the development of the health in the countries of the Latin America and the Caribbean by means of the democratizacion of access, publication and use of the health information, knowledge and scientific evidence.

The primary foundations of the origin and support to BIREME’s existence are the following

• the access to scientific and technical health information is essential for the development health research, education and care systems.
  
  
• the need of technical cooperation to develop Latin American and Caribbean regional and national capacities and infrastructures on health scientific and technical information according to the international state of art;
  
  
• the need to increase in a sustainable way the visibility, accessibility, dissemination, use and impact of scientific information generated at national, regional and global levels.
