Sending articles via electronic mail 

To receive articles through e-mail, the user should consider the following:
  • The sent article can be an image in format TIFF or PDF, according the sender library. To open the file, in case Tif file the user needs a TIFF Viewer, and in case PDF file the user needs Abode Acrobat; 

  • An article of 10 pages can have the size of 2 MB. Check with your internet provider the maximum size of the article that you can receive or the space that you have available in its post office box; 

  • Not all libraries that fill the requests of photocopies can send them via e-mail. In this case, the article can be sent via snail mail. See the libraries which supply requests via e-mail.

  • The majority of the problems relating to the reading of an e-mailed file can only be solved by the users: employing an adequate TIFF viewer, reserving sufficient space in their e-mail box etc.

  • Problems in opening a received file do not cancel or reject a request in SCAD. The library responsible for fulfilling the request will decide on sending or not the same article by mail without additional costs for the user. However, the SCAD system registration will remain as "fulfilled" and delivered by e-mail.

  • A new delivery of the same article will only be made in the case of missing pages or parts of the text, and because of poor quality of the image. Complaints should be made up to 48 hours after the file has been sent.

Select the option E-mail and, in front of the option, indicate the e-mail address in a correct way. 

 
TIFF Viewer 

The articles sent by e-mail are in TIF format.  To openning TIF archives, you need a TIFF Viewer software.

DocView - is a good free software, easy and efficient management. It was developed by National Library of Medicine. The address from where the program can be copied is: http://archive.nlm.nih.gov/proj/docview/distrib/download.htm .

Imaging - is a excellent software for windows, which included MS-Office versions (see Program Files/Accessories).Also, the address from where the program can be copied is: http://www.eastmansoftware.com/products/index.htm

TIFF Surfer - is a good shareware software that allows you to see files in format TIFF using Explorer or Netscape. The address from where the program can be copied is:

Sending article by Ariel

- Ariel is a software package that allows the delivery of images of documents straight to the IP address of the user's or library's computer through the Internet.

- Ariel delivery of an article is conditional of the availability of the Ariel software in the library responsible for fulfilling the request. If the library does not have the software, photocopies will be delivered to users by mail. Please, see the list of libraries which offer this service.

- In the case of occurring problems with the user's IP address, for example the sending computer does not complete the transmission, or it does not connect, etc., photocopies will be delivered by mail. In those cases, registration of the request in the SCAD system will be "fulfilled" and delivered by mail.

- A new delivery of the same article will only be made in the case of missing pages or parts of the text, or because of poor quality of the received image. Complaints should be made up to 48 hours after the file has been received.
